A good snack earns a second handful. For this 2026 shortlist, we looked for distinct kinds of crunch, recognizable flavor profiles, and enough published product information to help you choose. Plain popcorn, chickpea puffs, roasted chickpeas, and thin pretzel crackers each solve a different snack problem. Buying one of everything is optional. Having a reason for each is useful.
This is a selection from Chik’nPop, a snack brand with a fairly obvious interest in popcorn. We checked the manufacturers’ pages linked below; this is not a blind tasting, a sales ranking, or an awards list. Our own popcorn is in a separate coming-soon spot because you cannot buy it yet. Product formulas and availability can change, so the pack in your hand gets the final word.
Choose the job before the bag
Start with where the snack is going. For a film, a light snack you can keep reaching for makes sense. For dips, you need a surface that survives the journey from bowl to mouth. For a desk drawer, a resealable package matters more than a dramatic party-size bag. These are different jobs, and a single overall winner would hide the useful differences.
Our selection favors savory flavor, a distinct texture, and a clear use. We have left out prices because pack sizes and retailer promotions make a quick price comparison misleading. Use price per ounce when you compare the same type of snack, then check shipping before deciding that an online multipack is a bargain.
For a simple popcorn base: LesserEvil Himalayan Pink Salt
LesserEvil’s Himalayan Pink Salt popcorn lists popcorn, coconut oil, and Himalayan salt. That makes it a straightforward option when you want popcorn without an elaborate flavor coating. It also leaves room for a strongly flavored dip elsewhere on the table.
The manufacturer identifies a facility that also uses milk and egg ingredients. A short ingredient list does not answer every allergy question. Read that statement alongside the rest of the label rather than treating the number of ingredients as a safety score.
For a cheese-style flavor: HIPPEAS Groovy White Cheddar
HIPPEAS Groovy White Cheddar puffs are a plant-based chickpea puff option. Their ingredients include chickpea flour, rice flour, yeast extract, onion, and garlic. If you want a cheese-style snack without dairy ingredients in the recipe, this is a different format from popcorn worth considering.
Choose these for the puff format itself. Chickpea flour in a puff does not make it interchangeable with a bowl of whole chickpeas, and this shortlist does not rank snacks by healthfulness. The ingredient and nutrition panels can answer the questions that matter to your own shopping list.
For a compact crunch: Biena Sea Salt roasted chickpeas
Biena’s Sea Salt chickpea snacks offer a roasted whole-chickpea format. They suit the kind of snack bowl where a few different sizes and textures make the spread more interesting. Put them in a small separate dish so they do not settle underneath all the popcorn.
The useful distinction is physical: whole roasted chickpeas are compact, while popcorn fills a bowl with much more air. Pick the format you enjoy eating. Avoid comparing the two by an equal-looking handful and assuming you have compared equal serving sizes.
For a dip companion: Snack Factory Original Pretzel Crisps
Snack Factory Original Pretzel Crisps have a thin, flat shape that makes sense beside a spread. The published ingredient panel contains wheat. They are not the gluten-free choice in this lineup.
A fairly simple pretzel lets the dip do more of the talking. If the dip is already heavily seasoned, a second bold coating can compete with it. Put a small amount out first and keep the rest of the pack closed until you need a refill.
On our launch list: Chik’nPop
Our contribution is Chik’nPop mushroom popcorn: round kernels with a bold, savory signature seasoning, a little heat, and no chicken. The popcorn is vegan and gluten free. We built it for people who want the seasoning to show up for work.
Chik’nPop is not available to order yet. Join the US waitlist for the availability email and the first-bag offer. We are not calling an unreleased product the winner of a contest we did not run. We are giving you something to look forward to while your current snack cupboard does its best.
